Precept Coaches Poll - Division II - Oct. 1, 2003

West Florida Retains No. 1 Ranking in Precept Coaches Poll

Argos earn 12 first-place votes

 

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? West Florida earned six first-place votes to retain the No. 1 ranking in the Division II Precept Coaches Poll. The Argos totalled 465 first-place votes to outdistance second-ranked Rollins (451 points) and No. 3 Cal-State Bakersfield (415 points), who earned three first-place votes apiece.

 

South Carolina-Aiken also earned a first-place vote to move from eighth to fourth while Cal State-Stanislaus tallied one first-place ballot to stand pat at fifth. Defending NCAA champion Francis Marion fell two spots to fourth despite four first-place votes. North Alabama stayed at No. 7 and was followed by Chico State and Florida Southern, who each earned first-place votes. Western Washington made the biggest jump in the poll, moving up from No. 17 to 10th.

 

Armstrong Atlantic State fell out of the top 10 to No. 11, as did Pfeiffer who fell to No. 14. California-Davis spends another week at No. 12 while Central Oklahoma and Grand Canyon move up to Nos. 13 and 15, respectively. Kennesaw State climbed two spots to No. 16. Colorado-Colorado Springs and Abilene Christian each fell - Colorado-Colorado Springs to No. 17 and Abiline Christian to No. 18. Cameron bumped up a spot to No. 19. Georgia College & State University had the biggest fall inside the top 25, dropping five rungs to No. 20.

 

Columbus State and Lynn stand pat at Nos. 21 and 25. Delta State, Central Arkansas and Barton debut at spots 22-24.

Ferris State, Presbyterian and Valdosta State dropped from the rankings.

 

The Division II Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of Division II coaches and administrators that are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division II Precept Coaches poll will be released Oct. 22.
