Castillo named 2020 NCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award Recipient

NORMAN, Okla. — Ricky Castillo of Florida has been named the recipient of the 2020 NCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.

Castillo posted a scoring average of 70.08 over his 21 rounds played this season, good for lowest on team. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native won twice during his freshman campaign, and finished inside the top-25 individually in every event played.

Castillo was also selected to the 2020 U.S. Arnold Palmer Cup Team, and is a finalist for the 2020 Ben Hogan Award, given to the top men’s college golfer, taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions.

Castillo closed out his impressive Freshman campaign by earning NCAA Division I PING All-Southeast Region honors, as well as being selected as a NCAA Division I PING First Team All-American.

Johnny Keefer of Baylor, Yuxin Lin of Southern California, William Mouw of Pepperdine, William Paysse of Texas A&M, and Mark Power of Wake Forest all joined Castillo on the All-Freshman team.
