GCAA and The First Tee Turn to Atlanta for Second Event

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in a cooperative outreach initiative with The First Tee program held the second in a series of one-day events with The First Tee of Atlanta on Saturday, Oct. 30, at John A. White Golf Course.  This event brought together collegiate players and their coaches with youngsters from The First Tee in an effort to promote involvement between college golf and the next generation of players in the game.  The Atlanta chapter brought together over 100 participants from the ages of 9-17.  The four-hour plus event was broken down into two sessions which included a wellness discussion, long game, short game, and putting stations for all participants.  College coaches and players conducted a question and answer session with each group as well as one-on-one instruction at each station.  Consistent with the GCAA initiative on skin cancer prevention with the Sun SafeTee organization (www.sunsafetee.org ), educational materials were passed out to all participants and a discussion with the participants followed.

Seven universities and colleges, including Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Clayton State, Emory, Oglethorpe and Morehouse, were represented in the 50-plus coaches and players in attendance.

“The GCAA feels great about the turnout in this, our second The First Tee partnership event,” said GCAA CEO Gregg Grost.  “The university coaches and student-athletes from the Greater Atlanta area went above and beyond to help make this a great next step in building the relationship between the GCAA and The First Tee organization.”

Additional 2010 events include The First Tee of Oklahoma City on Sunday, Nov. 14 and The First Tee of Los Angeles and The First Tee of Pasadena on Saturday, Nov. 20.  For more information please contact Megan Goodwin, GCAA Director of Membership Services and Outreach, This email address is being protected from spambots.
