2015 Division III Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Barbasol Finalists Announced
NORMAN, Okla. – Five finalists have been named for the 2015 Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol. Jack Cersosimo of Concordia (TX), Redland’s Bobby Holden, Cory Howard of LaGrange, Oglethorpe’s Anthony Maccaglia and Methodist’s Mason Stutler are finalists for the honor that will be presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Awards in 1988.
Cersosimo ranks ninth in the nation with a 72.61 stroke average. He captured the American Southwest Conference Championship at Squaw Valley Golf Club in Glen Rose. Cersosimo was a first-team All-ASC honoree and finished in the top 10 in eight of nine tournament this year, including three victories.
Holden is the reigning Division III Jack Nicklaus Award recipient. Earlier this season, he was honored as one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award, which considers an entire collegiate academic and golf career as well as his character and integrity while in college. Holden has four wins this season and only two finishes outside the top four in 10 events.
Howard was selected as the USA South Conference Player of the Year and was on the All-Conference first team for the third straight year. He is the first LaGrange athlete to earn a USA South player of the year award. Howard has recorded seven top-10 finishes, six top-five finishes and placed first in three events. Howard was named USA South Golfer of the Week three times this season.
Maccaglia is currently the top-ranked Division III golfer in the nation according to Golfstat. He earned Southern Athletic Association Men’s Golfer of the Year honors for the second consecutive season. He was a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award this season, which considers an entire collegiate academic and golf career as well as his character and integrity while in college. He earned three individual medals on the season and six SAA Men’s Golfer of the Week awards.
Stutler was named USA South All-Conference first team. He had two victories on the season. Stutler claimed six total top-10 finishes. His worst finish on the season was tied for 18th in nine tournaments. He was also named to USA South’s All-Sportsmanship team.
