Durnford leads Wire-to-Wire to claim NJCAA Division I Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award

SILVIS, Ill. – Joel Durnford of Iowa Western claimed the NJCAA Division I Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award for earning medalist honors at the NJCAA Division I National Championships. By claiming the Arnold Palmer Award, Durnford is also added to the PING All-America First Team.

Eight opening round birdies, including a stretch of four straight, moved Durnford to 6-under 66 and a tie in first place with Iowa Western teammate Tom Westenberger. Four birdies and and eagle in the second round moved Durnford to 11-under and a three-stroke advantage. During a third round suspended due to weather, Durnford carded his third straight round in the 60’s with 69. This pushed his three-round total to 14-under and extended his lead to nine shots. Durnford was 1-under in the final round, moving his total to 15-under and a six-shot victory.

The win was Durnford’s fourth of the season.
