Scharmann Claims Division III Arnold Palmer Individual National Champion Award

NORMAN, Okla. – Kelby Scharmann of La Verne claimed the Division III Arnold Palmer Individual National Champion Award for earning medalist honors at the NCAA Championships.

Scharmann’s first round got off to a slow start before beginning a streak on his eighth hole that included five birdies and an eagle that put him at 6-under for the day. A rough second round saw him fall back to 3-under. Scharmann rebounded during round three with four birdies in five holes as he made the turn to move to 7-under and tie for first. During the final round he bogeyed Nos. 2 and 4 to fall back to second. However, an eagle at the sixth and birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 gave him a lead he wouldn’t relinquish. Scharmann finished 9-under for the tournament for a six-shot victory.

The win was Scharmann’s fourth of the season and second straight. He only finished outside the top 10 twice this season with his worst finish a tie for 15th.
