Division II Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips Finalists Announced

NORMAN, Okla. – Division II finalists for the Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips have been announced by the GCAA. The Williams Award honors the national coach of the year in Division II men’s golf.

The five finalists are Gary Bissell of Grand Valley State, West Florida’s Steve Fell, Travis Muncy of Lincoln Memorial, Barry’s Jimmy Stobs, and Lynn’s Andy Walker. If a team wins the NCAA Championship and its coach was not previously named a finalist for the Dave Williams Award that coach will be added for coach of the year consideration.

Bissell’s Grand Valley State squad won outright or shared the team title in six events. The Lakers also finished runner-up twice and were only outside the top four in the standings twice in 12 events. Grand Valley State qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2008.

The Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year, Fell led the Argos to its 17th Gulf South Conference Men’s Golf Championship in program history and its the seventh straight. The conference title was one of three wins for West Florida. The Argos finished in the top five in nine of 11 events.

Under Muncy the Railsplitters matched their program single-season record with five wins. Lincoln Memorial was also runner-up twice and posted top-five finishes in 10 of 12 tournaments. Muncy was named South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year.

Stobs was also named Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year. Barry won seven tournaments this season. The Bucs were also runner-up twice and third on two occasions. Barry was ranked first in eight straight Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Polls, including a unanimous selection in the final two.

Walker is in his first season at Lynn. He has led the Fighting Knights to four victories this season. Lynn was also runner-up three times and has not placed outside the top six in 11 events. Lynn was ranked second in the final regular season Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.
