Finalists Announced for 2016 NJCAA Division I Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award presented by Golf Pride Grips
Melbourne, Florida – NJCAA Division I finalists for the Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips have been announced by the GCAA. The Williams Award honors the national coach of the year in NJCAA Division I men’s golf.
The six finalists are Jamie Howell of Eastern Florida State College, Rob Murray of Indian Hills CC, Delnor Poss of Midland College, Pima College’s Clark Rustand, Derrick Thompson of Iowa Western CC, and Dan York of Wallace State CC. If a team wins the NCAA Championship and its coach was not previously named a finalist for the Dave Williams Award that coach will be added for coach of the year consideration.
Howell has led Eastern Florida State to three victories on the season, most recently at the NJCAA District IV Championship. The Titans have finished no lower than third place in any event this season.
The Murray-led Warriors are the top ranked team in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. Their victory at the NJCAA District III Championship was their sixth this season, while they also have four other top-3 placings.
Poss has guided Midland College to eight victories on the season, and his team was runner-up in every other event they played. The Chapparals finished the regular season ranked second in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.
Pima College, led by Rustand, were the victors at the NJCAA Region I Championship. The Aztecs have one other victory on the season and four runner-up finishes.
Iowa Western has four team titles on the season. Thompson has also guided the Reivers to four additional top-3 finishes, including a recent runner-up placing at the NJCAA DI District III Championship.
York has led Wallace State to two team titles on the season, including the NJCAA DI Region XXII Championship. The Lions have nine other top-5 finishes on the year, including four as runner-up.
