Elliott Breaks NAIA Championships Scoring Record to Claim Arnold Palmer Individual National Champion Award

NORMAN, Okla. – Sean Elliott of Dalton State broke the 60-year NAIA Championships scoring record to claim the Arnold Palmer Individual National Champion Award for earning medalist honors at the NAIA Championships.

Elliott’s four-round total of 272 broke the old mark set by Ray Ferguson of North Texas State in 1955.

Elliott carded 4-under 68 in his opening round. He followed with 69, which was broken up over two days due to weather delays, to move into first place through two rounds. Elliott pulled away from the field during the third round when he blistered the course with 7-under 65. He tallied nine birdies during the round, including six of his last eight holes. Elliott shot 2-under in the final round, include a birdie on his final hole to set the record and win by eight shots.

The win was Elliott’s third of the season and second straight. He only finished outside the top 10 once this season with his worst finish a tie for 16th.
