Tohoku Fukushi, Furuse Lead After Two Rounds at 2025 Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational

NAPA, Calif. – The opening two rounds of the second annual Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational took place Monday under bright and firm conditions at Silverado Resort. Tohoku Fukushi’s Koichiro Furuse recorded rounds of 67 and 68 for a nine-under, two-stroke individual lead heading into Tuesday’s final round. Tohoku Fukushi leads by seven shots over Santa Clara.
Round 1
With eight birdies to only one bogey, Santa Clara’s Calder Overfelt recorded what would be the lowest round of the day, a seven-under 65, to lead by two after the opening round.
Tohoku Fukushi, who had four players finish the first round inside the top 10 individually, built a four-stroke team lead over Santa Clara.
Round 2
Furuse carded the five-under 67 bogey-free with an eagle on the 570-yard, par 5 18th, in the opening round and didn’t miss a beat. The Kagawa Prefecture native used six birdies for the four-under 68 to create his two-stroke lead.
“Honestly speaking, I’m so surprised by myself,” said Furuse. “Playing outside of Japan is really valuable for me, so I really try to enjoy where I am right now and how I am playing.”
San Francisco improved their team score by 12 strokes from the first round by recording a second-round 281, only topped by Tohoku Fukushi’s 279. Host university Central Michigan improved their team score by 20 shots.
Final-round pairings begin at 9:30 AM PST Tuesday and live scoring can be found on ScoreboardLive.
