James Named 2023 NCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award presented by StrackaLine Recipient

NORMAN, Okla. — Ben James of Virginia has been named the recipient of the 2023 NCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award presented by StrackaLine.

James won five tournaments this season, including the 2023 NCAA Las Vegas Regional, en route to PING First-Team All-America, PING All-East Region, ACC Freshman of the Year, and All-ACC honors. The Milford, Conn., native recorded 11 top-10 finishes in 13 tournaments, including sixth at the 2023 NCAA DI Championship, and claimed victory in his collegiate debut at the Streamsong Invitational with a 20-under 196 that included a first-round 63.    

Nick Dunlap of Alabama, Christiaan Maas of Texas, Michael Mjaaseth of Arizona State, and Caleb Surratt of Tennessee joined James on the All-Freshman team.
