Houston’s Hill Recipient of Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf

NORMAN, Okla. – Chris Hill of Houston has been chosen recipient of the 2014 Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf as selected by the GCAA. The Strickland Award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.

Hill is in his fourth season with the Houston golf program. He enters his second season as the associate head coach of the men’s team. In that role, he assists in all aspects of the team, including practice scheduling, recruiting, event scheduling and student-athlete development. In 2013, Houston won its first conference championship since 2002 and has risen from 178th in the rankings into the top 10 during his tenure. Additionally, Hill organizes Houston’s annual Dave Williams Pro-Am and was integral in the development of the Dave Williams Golf Academy at Golf Club of Houston, the team’s new facility. This season Houston has claimed four team championships and four individual medalist honors.

“I am both very humbled and honored to win The Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of The Year award,” said Hill. “I am extremely grateful to Taylor Made Adidas Golf and the GCAA committee for granting me this prestigious award. When I started coaching, I only dreamt that someday I would be included in the ranks of coaches ever even considered for such an honor. I share this award with Coach Jonathan Dismuke, a great friend and amazing mentor; he took a chance on me, and in the process has taught me so much! I would also like to thank my parents, my wife, Alyssa, and son, Graham, for believing in and supporting me through my coaching endeavors. Finally, my most important thank you goes to all my players, past and present, because without them this award was never even a possibility.”

The Strickland Award recipient will have the opportunity to further his professional development by receiving an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.
