GCAA Summer Series: Tremulot, Shong, and Jabenis share lead after first round

NORMAN, Okla. – After 18 holes, Sebastien Tremulot, from Wayland Baptist University, Brandon Shong, from the University of New Mexico, and Grant Jabenis, from Iowa Western Community College, share the lead at the GCAA Summer Series, presented by the John T. Reis Foundation, hosted by Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Brandon Shong, from Sydney, Australia, has remained in the United States all summer due to his country's COVID-19 travel restrictions. Shong, who got in a groove early, shot 2-under 70 in Tuesday’s round. He was bogey free before failing to convert on the par-5 13th hole.
“My ball striking was really good. I think I only missed two fairways and one green, so I pretty much just cruised,” said Shong following his round.
Despite starting off slow on the front nine, 1-over 37, Sebastien Tremulot nailed three birdies on the back nine, including the 18th hole, giving himself a share of the lead heading into Day 2 at Jimmie Austin.
Grant Jabenis approached 16th tee at 4-under but would bogey back-to-back holes. A par at the 18th hole allowed him to finish at 2-under 70. Jabenis had five birdies on his card, including three in a row to end his back-nine.
