Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation to Sponsor Mickelson Award
Honor recognizes most outstanding freshman in NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA


NORMAN, Okla. ?  The Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation will sponsor the Phil Mickelson Award announced the Golf Coaches Association of America. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding freshman golfer in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as the NAIA.
    
Underwriting the Phil Mickelson Award is a new direction for the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation, which primarily has been aimed at initiatives in support of education and family needs. Along with annual generous contributions the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Homes for Our Troops, two military support organizations, this is the fourth year Foundation has both contributed to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and has run its Start Smart program, which hosts 1,500 elementary schoolchildren for a back-to-school shopping trip for clothes and supplies in San Diego.
    
?Amy and I are very happy to help celebrate excellence at the start of collegiate careers,? said Mickelson. ?Just as with our other Foundation?s other interests, we hope the recipients are inspired to continue to strive and achieve.?
        
Mickelson Award recipients will be announced May 16 for NAIA and Division III and May 17 for Division II. The Division I winner will be named May 31.
