Methodist and Oglethorpe Share Top Spot in Division III Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches Poll

 

NEW YORK, NY?The final Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches? Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, NIKE Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). For the first time this season, there are two teams sharing the top spot in the ranking. Methodist and Oglethorpe each received 342 points, with Oglethorpe earning seven of the 14 first-place votes and Methodist earning six.

 

Methodist played in four fall tournaments, coming in second at the Jack Shadwick Invitational (Sept. 24-25), winning the Greensboro Invitational (Oct. 1-2), and finishing third at the Tom O?Briant Memorial (Oct. 8-9) and the Oglethrope/Royal Lakes Fall Classic (Oct. 22-23). Oglethorpe played five fall events, winning two: the Tom O?Briant Memorial and The Gordin Collegiate Classic (Oct. 14-15). Rounding out the top-five are Saint John?s (Minn.) (No. 3), Huntingdon (No. 4) and Rhodes (No. 5).

 

Rhodes College had the biggest jump into the top-10, thanks to a pair of runner-up finishes at its home event (Rhodes Collegiate Golf Classic, Sept. 23-24) and the Gordin Collegiate Classic. The Lynx were ranked No. 12 in the previous coaches? poll.

 

New to the top-25 are Centre (No. 17), Washington & Lee (T-23) and Olivet (No. 25).
