Cappelen Wins The Patriot All-America Invitational

Litchfield Park, Ariz. – Sebastian Cappelen birdied the 18th hole for a one-shot victory at The Patriot All-America Invitational on the Gold Course at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz. Cappelen’s three-round 4-under bested Kevin Penner by one stroke.

Cody Proveaux began day in the lead but bogeys on two of the first three holes knocked him out of the top spot. Jimmy Kozikowski posted an eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie stretch beginning on the fourth hole to move to 5-under for the tournament but three bogeys on the back nine dropped him back to 2-under.

Meanwhile, Cappelen began the round three shots back in third place. He birdied the second hole to move to 3-under for the tournament but bogeyed the next two. Birdies at Nos. 6, 10 and 13 catapulted Cappelen to a tie for the lead at 4-under. He fell back to 3-under after a bogey at 14. Penner moved into a tie with Cappelen after a birdie at No. 17.

On No. 18 Cappelen’s tee shot went right into the rough. His approach shot from 165 yards carried towards the water and landed right but rolled towards the pin coming to rest at 15 feet. Cappelen’s birdie putt moved him back to 4-under for the win.

“It was really great to get the win,” said Cappelen. “It was so much fun to go up against Kevin (Penner). Last time I finished one-shot behind him (at the Western Refining College Golf All-America Golf Classic). It’s fun to have that rivalry and can’t wait for it to continue. I really enjoy playing in the Patriot. It’s great to stay at the resort and they take good care of us.”

Daniel Berger and Kozikowski tied for third at 2-under. Richard James, Cody Proveaux and Ollie Schniederjans finished in a three-way tie for fifth at 1-under 209.
