Brockbank appointed GCAA Second Vice-President
 

NORMAN, Okla. ? Bruce Brockbank of Brigham Young has been appointed GCAA second vice-president announced the association. He will fulfill the unexpired term previously held by Mike Ketcham.

In his 14 years at the helm of the Cougar squad, he has coached 15 All-Americans, including four-time All-American Andy Miller, who qualified for the PGA Tour in 2002, and two-time All-Americans Manuel Merizalde, Oscar Alvarez and Jake Ellison. He has also coached several other All-Americans including Todd Miller (2004), Jose Garrido (1999), Billy Harvey (1999), Todd Pence (1995) and Eric Rustand (1994). As a Cougar assistant in 1992 he also helped coach second team All-American and current PGA Tour star Mike Weir. He has also helped guide current PGA Tour pro Dean Wilson during his career.

His players have earned 34 All-Conference citations, including three conference championship winners, Andy Miller in 1996-97 and Merizalde in 1998-99 and the 2006 MWC Player of the Year Jake Ellison. He has coached four conference freshmen of the year including Matt Thurmond (1994), Michael Henderson (1996) and Andy Miller (1997) and Daniel Summerhays (2003). He has also coached seven academic All-Americans.

Brockbank has led his teams to 32 tournament wins, including the conference titles in 1995, 1999 and 2001. In 1999-2000, he led BYU to seven tournament wins, more than any other team in the nation and was named the 2000 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year. He was named WAC Coach of the Year in 1994 and again in 1999.

Brockbank served as GCAA All-America Scholar Chairman for four years and on the All-America Scholar commitee for 11 years. He also completed a four-year term on the All-American committee from 1996-1999.
