American Team Tied for Lead After Round One of Toyota Junior World Golf Cup

Flores fires course-record

TOYOTA CITY, Japan - The United States fired a 212 in the first round of the Toyota Junior World Golf Cup at the par 72 Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan, to tie Argentina, Columbia, and England for the team lead. In the individual competition, American Erik Flores set a single-round course-record with a 7-under 65.

Flores' bogey-free round was a single shot ahead of the previous record that was matched by Mexico's Juan Pablo Solis and his 6-under 66. "I executed my game plan much better (than in practice rounds)," Flores said. "I was able to hit a lot of fairways and had good shots at most of the pins." Flores and Solis were followed by Alan Wagner (68), Hector Arias (70), Juan Pablo Candela (70), Ming-Chuan Chen (70) and Oliver Fisher (70).

The four team leaders are followed by Mexico (214), Belgium (219), New Zealand (219), Chinese Taipei (220), Canada (223), Japan (223), South Africa (223), Spain (223), India (227) and Zimbabwe (230).

Matthew Swan, Michael Green and Nicholas Smith finished at 71, 72 and 73, respectively for the United States. Round two will tee off Wednesday morning with the leaders teeing off last.
