Team USA Down One Stroke After Round Two of Toyota Junior World Golf Cup

Flores still atop individual leader board

TOYOTA CITY, Japan ? England fired an 8-under 208 on Wednesday to take a single-stroke lead over the United States at the 2005 Toyota World Junior Golf Cup. England?s total of 420 (-12) bested America?s 421 (-11), Colombia?s 423 (-9) and Argentina?s 425 (-7), all of which were tied atop the leader board coming into the round. The par 72 Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan, played easier than the day before, allowing scores to be lower throughout the leader board. USA?s Erik Flores followed up his course-record 7-under 65 with a 71 (-1) to stay atop the individual leader board by three strokes.

Riding the strength of a second-round 211, New Zealand moved up to the fifth spot at minus-2 (430). Mexico slipped from fifth to sixth (431, -1) and was followed by Chinese Taipei and Spain, both of which came into the clubhouse at even through two rounds (432). Canada (435, +3), Belgium (436, +4), Japan (437, +5), South Africa (441, +9), India (443, +11) and Zimbabwe (462, +30) rounded out the field of 14.

Flores held on to the individual lead despite hitting only three fairways during his second-day round. Four golfers trail Flores by three shots (-5): Juan Pablo Candela of Colombia, Chinese Taipei?s Ming-Chuan Chen, Juan Pablo Solis of Mexico and England?s Daniel Willet. Oliver Fisher of England and Spain?s Juan Fransisco Sarasti finished tied for sixth at 4-under. Ben Parker of England rounds out the top eight, giving England three of the top eight individuals through two rounds

Americans Matthew Swan and Nicholas Smith each shot a 3-under 69, bringing the respective totals to 142 (-2) and 144 (E). Michael Green shot an even 72, besting his round one score by two strokes, to bring his overall total to 146 (+2). Round two will tee off Wednesday morning with the leaders going off last.
