Whistling Straits to Host 2005 Palmer Cup Presented by Monster

College golf?s Ryder Cup-style competition tees off on the Irish Course June 8-9.

NEW ORLEANS ?

Whistling Straits near Kohler, Wisconsin, has been selected as the site for the 2005 Palmer Cup presented by Monster announced the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 8-9 on the 7,201 yard, par 72 Irish Course when the top collegiate players from the United States tee off against their counterparts from Europe. The Americans lead the series, 4-3-1.

"We?re thrilled to have such a prestigious venue hosting the Palmer Cup presented by Monster," said GCAA President Tom Drennan. "It will be an excellent test for the Tour stars of tomorrow and continues the tradition of excellent courses to host the matches."

Beginning with a 560-acre parcel of flat land, Pete Dye sculpted a bit of Ireland and a touch of Scotland out of the Wisconsin coastline to build Whistling Straits. With more than a hint of the Emerald Isle in its style and personality, the Irish Course at Whistling Straits possesses all the character of a centuries? old legend. The Irish Course completes 72 holes of the most diverse golf experience in the world. The course is another Dye masterpiece and a perfect companion to the adjacent, stunning Straits Course. To ensure that golfers will remember the Irish Course, Dye claims he has used "every trick I?ve ever learned" in routing and sculpting the hole dynamics. Capitalizing on the endlessly fickle personality of nearby Lake Michigan, the Irish Course offers intriguing prospects at every turn.

"We are delighted to host the Palmer Cup," said Herbert V. Kohler Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Kohler Co. "This event has been played on some of the world?s best venues and it is fitting that after being played last year at Ballybunion that it be played at the renowned links across the sea - Whistling Straits."

Whistling Straits previously hosted the 1999 PGA Club Professionals Championship and the 2004 PGA Championship. Whistling Straits will also be the site of the 2007 U.S. Senior Open. Its sister golf venue at Kohler - Blackwolf Run - hosted the 1999 U.S. Women?s Open.

"Monster could not be happier with the opportunity to stage this top collegiate competition at the impressive Whistling Straits," commented Andrew J. McKelvey, Chairman and CEO of Monster Worldwide. "The whole Kohler experience will be outstanding for the talented young men who qualify for the Palmer Cup presented by Monster - college golf?s equivalent to the Ryder Cup."

The ninth annual Palmer Cup presented by Monster competition returns to the United States after being held at Ballybunion Golf Club in Ireland last summer. Past venues for the event include Bay Hill, both the Old and New Courses at St. Andrews, The Honors Course, Royal Liverpool, Baltusrol, Doonbeg and Cassique. Past participants include British Open Champion Ben Curtis, Jonathan Byrd, Luke Donald, Charles Howell III, Michael Hoey, Matt Kuchar, Peter Lawrie, Hunter Mahan, D.J. Trahan and Ryan Moore.
