Florida New No. 1 in Precept Coaches Poll

Gators receive 12 first-place votes

 

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? Florida received 12 of 28 first-place votes to move into the top spot in the Precept Division I Coaches Poll and end Clemson?s streak of eight consecutive rankings at No. 1. The Gators accumulated 667 points to the Tigers? 646. Clemson tallied 11 first-place votes.

 

The five remaining first-place votes went to third-ranked UCLA and No. 4 Oklahoma State - who received two each - and fifth-ranked Arizona State. Texas fell from fifth to sixth while TCU made the biggest jump in the poll from No. 14 to seventh. Georgia moved up two spots to eighth. Wake Forest and UNLV dropped from sixth and seventh, respectively, into a tie for ninth.

 

Southern California leapt from No. 17 to No. 11. Augusta State fell from the top 10 to No. 12 and Georgia Tech and Arizona tumbled to Nos. 13 and 14, respectively. New Mexico jumped five spots to No. 15 and is followed by North Carolina, Washington and NC State. Oklahoma moved inside the top 20 to No. 19 while Auburn plummeted five slots to 20.

 

Arkansas fell two rungs to No. 21 and Duke held steady at 22. South Carolina and California debuted at Nos. 23 and 25, respectively. Minnesota dropped three places to 24.

Illinois and Tennessee fell from the rankings.

 

The next Division I Precept Coaches poll will be released Oct. 8.
