The First Tee of Pittsburgh and the GCAA Hold Fall Event

Pittsburgh, PA - The First Tee program and the GCAA held the second program of the fall in a series of one-day events with The First Tee of Pittsburgh Sunday, November 6 at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course. This event brought together collegiate players and their coaches with youngsters from The First Tee in an effort to promote involvement between college golf programs and the next generation of players in the game.

“The number of coaches and players that participated was tremendous.  They brought a great amount of energy, perspective, and understanding to the clinic participants about the game of golf and playing in college.  I am very excited to already have a few long term volunteer options with the schools that I think will help to strengthen the existing coaching at TFTP,” said Eric Amato, Director of Programming and Instruction with The First Tee Pittsburgh.

Almost 40 participants from the Pittsburgh chapter, between the ages of 7 and 17, participated in the event that consisted of rotating stations that included a wellness discussion, long, short game and putting instructions for all participants. College coaches and players from California University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, Robert Morris University, and Washington & Jefferson College conducted a question and answer session with each group as well as one-on-one instruction at each station.

“The GCAA would like to thank the The First Tee of Pittsburgh and all the participating college teams for working to put together such a wonderful event this last weekend,” said GCAA CEO Gregg Grost.  “This was a great experience for all those involved.”

“We also had a fantastic turnout with four Colleges volunteering and this ensured 1 on 1 instruction for every participant”, said Sean Dove, Head Coach at Washington & Jefferson College.  “We had a great day and I know the event benefited the kids as well as the student athletes and coaches.”
