The First Tee of Greater Seattle Partners with Area Colleges for Special Event this Friday

SEATTLE (April 21, 2011) – Participants of The First Tee of Greater Seattle will have the opportunity to meet and learn from student-athletes and coaches from two area colleges/universities this Friday, April 22 from 4-7 p.m. during a special event at Jefferson Park Golf Club, home of The First Tee of Greater Seattle.

The First Tee of Greater Seattle and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) have teamed up to organize the event, which will benefit more than 50 young people from the Seattle area who are planning to attend. Student-athletes and coaches scheduled to participate in the event are from University of Washington and the University of Seattle.

The event will give The First Tee of Greater Seattle participants the opportunity to learn from collegiate players and coaches and in the areas of golf instruction and wellness, as well as the importance of high school graduation, preparation for college and college golf opportunities.

About The First Tee of Greater Seattle
The First Tee of Greater Seattle’s mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life enhancing values through the game of golf.

The First Tee of Greater Seattle offers free junior golf classes in spring, summer and fall. All kids ages 5 to 18 years old are welcome. Programming is offered at four area golf courses: Jefferson Park Golf Course in Beacon Hill, Jackson Park Golf Course in North Seattle, Crossroads Par-3 Golf Course in Bellevue, and Riverbend Golf Complex in Kent. The First Tee of Greater Seattle serves more then 1,400 kids everywhere, with more then 60% of the kids being minorities and more then 1/3 of the kids being from low income families.

The First Tee of Greater Seattle teaches kids more than just golf. Through the game, the program seeks to instill The First Tee Nine Core Values: Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment. The curriculum also uses golf to teach important communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

In addition to golf and life skills training, the program offers local field trips and opportunities for national trips and college scholarships. Every year The First Tee of Greater Seattle send kids to Disney World for a future leader’s forum as well as sending kids to many other parts of the country for leadership and golf development.
The First Tee also participates in the National School Program where more the 40,000 elementary aged children in the Kent and Seattle area are getting the golf and life skills curriculum.
