Georgia Retains Top Spot in Golf World/NIKE Golf Divisoin I Coaches' Poll

NEW YORK, NY?The third Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches? Poll of the spring season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, NIKE Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, will appear in the April 6th issue of Golf World.  Georgia remains the number one team in the poll, earning 18 of the 20 first-place votes.

The Bulldogs won the Linger Longer Invitational two weekends ago, their fourth team title this season. Only once in seven starts has Georgia failed to record a top-five finish.

Oklahoma State, runner-up at the Linger Longer, jumped from No. 3 to No. 2. The Cowboys were also runners-up at the Southern Highlands Invitational earlier in March.

Southern California dropped from No. 2 to No. 3, but the Trojans get 2007 NCAA individual champion Jamie Lovemark back in their lineup after he missed a month of the season with a broken finger.

Rounding out the top-five are Clemson (No. 4) and Stanford (No. 5).

Washington (No. 9) and Georgia Tech (No. 10) cracked the top-10, after being ranked Nos. 12 and 11, respectively, in the previous coaches? poll. The Huskies won their third tournament title of the season at the Oregon Duck Invitational last week. The Yellow Jackets host one of the biggest events of the spring season, the U.S. Collegiate, next week at The Golf Club of Georgia.

UNLV (No. 13) moved into the top-25 after winning the Southern Highlands Invitational and finishing fourth at the National Invitational Tournament last week.
