Oklahoma State New Top Team in Golf World/NIKE Golf Divisoin I Coaches' Poll

NEW YORK, NY?The third Golf/World/NIKE Golf Division I Coaches' Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, NIKE Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).  Oklahoma State is the new number one team in the poll, earning 16 of the 24 first-place votes.

The Cowboys won the team title at the PING/Golfweek Preview after finishing third in their season opener.  Freshman Morgan Hoffmann, a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Amateur in August, was the co-medalist at the Preview.

Rounding out the top-five are Southern California (No. 2), Georgia (No. 3), Illinois (No. 4) and Tennessee (No. 5).

Illinois had the biggest jump, moving from unranked in the last poll to fourth in this week's poll, including getting five first-place votes.  The Fighting Illini was runner-up in its season opener, the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, then won the Olypia Fields Invitational in late September and claimed the team title at last week's Windon Memorial Classic.

Tennessee (No. 5) and South Carolina (No. 9) cracked the top-10, after being ranked 11th and 14th, respectively, in the previous coaches' poll.  Arkansas (No. 14), Baylor (No. 17), Washington (No. 19), Indiana (No. 20), California (No. 23) and Michigan (No. 25) all moved into the top-25.
