McGraw named national coach of the year

NORMAN, Okla. ? Mike McGraw of Oklahoma State was named the Eaton Golf Pride Dave Williams Award winner as national coach of the year announced the Golf Coaches Association of America.

In his first year as men?s head coach after serving as women?s coach last year and an assistant to the men?s program at Oklahoma State, McGraw led the Cowboys to five tournament victories this season - including their 10th national title - and placed no lower than tied for fourth. He led his team to back-to-back victories at the Hall of Fame Invitational and Morris Williams Intercollegiate in mid-spring before claiming The Maxwell, Central Regional and NCAA Championships to close out the season. Additionally, McGraw?s players claimed the Jack Nicklaus (collegiate player of the year), Byron Nelson (based on golf, academics and citizenship over a collegiate career), Arnold Palmer (NCAA medalist) and Phil Mickelson (outstanding freshman) Awards, as well as placing two players on the PING All-America First-Team.

"I?m humbled by this honor and want to thank the kids on team," said McGraw. "I especially want to thank Alan Bratton, my assistant, who did more than you can imagine to help this team."
