Finalists Named for The Ben Hogan Award

Every, Kim and Kirk invited to Colonial for award banquet 

NORMAN, Okla. ? Bank of America, in cooperation with Colonial Country Club, The Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), has named Matt Every of Florida, Oklahoma?s Anthony Kim and Chris Kirk of Georgia finalists for The Ben Hogan Award and invited the three players to attend the Hogan banquet at Colonial Country Club on Saturday, May 13. The most prestigious award in men?s college golf, The Hogan is presented annually to the top men?s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or junior college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the last 12 months.

 

A two-time first-team PING All-America selection, Every earned his fourth career title this season at the Inverness Invitational. In addition to his victory to open the season, the senior from Daytona Beach, Fla., placed in the top five six times. This past summer Every was low amateur at the U.S. Open, finishing tied for 28th. He was a member of the winning U.S. teams at both the Palmer Cup and Walker in 2005 and was also a member of the 2004 Palmer Cup squad. Every was recently named first-team All-SEC for the third time.

 

A first-team PING All-America selection last season, Kim has claimed back-to-back individual titles this season - the Ashworth Invitational and Hall of Fame Invitational, where he was the only player under par for the tournament. Claiming the two tournaments earned the junior from La Quinta, Calif., Big 12 Golfer of the Month honors for March. Kim earned medalist honors at this summer?s U.S. Public Links, where he advanced to the semifinals. He was a member of the victorious U.S. Walker Cup team, posting a 2-1-1 record.

 

The 2006 SEC Player of the Year, Kirk was medalist at the Puerto Rico Classic. The native of Woodstock, Ga., has eight finishes in the top six this season. The junior is on pace to set the Georgia lowest season average record. Kirk will compete on the U.S. Palmer Cup squad that will compete at Prestwick Golf Club in June.
