USC-Aiken Continues to Set Pace in GCAA/Bridgestone Poll

Cal. State-Bakersfield close behind in second

NORMAN, Okla. ?

Thanks to an impressive performance at the Hall of Fame Invitational last weekend - in which it tied for eighth against some tough Division I competition - and victories in eight of its last 10 tournaments, South Carolina-Aiken was able to pick up five first-place votes and maintain a slim lead over Cal. State-Bakersfield. Cal. State-Bakersfield received four first-place votes and sits just 10 points behind the Pacers.

 

West Florida held on to the three spot followed by Hawaii-Hilo and Georgia College & State University. Western Washington rose three places to number six followed by Central Oklahoma, Lynn, Rollins and Cameron.

 

Delta State and Grand Canyon each climbed a rung up to Nos. 11 and 12, respectively. Barry checked in at No. 13 while the week?s biggest jumper - Florida Southern - flew up seven spots to No. 14. Meanwhile, the No. 15 position belongs to UC-San Diego with Florida Gulf Coast occupying the No. 16. Cal. State-Stanislaus, Armstrong Atlantic State, St. Martin?s and North Alabama finish up the top 20.

 

Chico State jumped up four rungs to No. 21 while the week?s biggest drop came in the form of Columbus State, who fell 11 slots to the No. 22 position. Nova Southeastern and St. Edward?s tied for No. 23. This week?s poll is closed out by Northeastern State who dropped three spots to the final position.

 

St. Mary?s (Texas) and Valdosta State dropped from the rankings.

 

The GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division II GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released April 15.
