Oklahoma State New No. 1 in GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll

Cowboys capture 22 first-place votes
 

NORMAN, Okla. ?

The Oklahoma State Cowboys earned 22 first-place votes to become the top-ranked team in men?s college golf in the GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll. Oklahoma State moved up five spots from sixth on the strength of its four-stroke victory at the PING/Golfweek Preview, its only outing of the season.

 

Georgia received five first-place votes to stay at second where they are tied with in-state rival Georgia Tech, who moved three spots from fifth. Former No. 1 Florida dropped three spots to fourth despite three first-place votes. Texas moved up five spots to fifth and is followed by New Mexico, Arizona State and Kentucky. Auburn cracked the top 10 at ninth and TCU climbed four rungs to No. 10.

 

Clemson fell eight spots to No. 11 while Southern California climbed from No. 17 to No. 12. Arizona dropped one place to 13th while UNLV moved up one place to No. 14. Tennessee stayed at No. 15. UCLA fell from ninth to No. 16 while Oklahoma, Brigham Young, Washington and South Carolina filled spots 16-20.

 

Wake Forest and Duke each dropped one spot, to Nos. 21 and 24, respectively. Georgia State (No. 22), Michigan State (No. 23) and Kent State (No. 25) each made their debut in this season?s top 25.

 

The GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division I GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll will be released on Oct. 21.
