Chico State New No. 1 in GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll

Wildcats capture 25 first-place votes

 

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? Chico State earned 18 first-place votes to become the top-ranked team in Division II men?s golf in the GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll. The Wildcats were previously ranked third. Chico State becomes the third program to hold the No. 1 ranking in Division II this season.

 

Previous No. 1 Cal. State-Bakersfield tallied four first-place votes while falling to second. Cal. State-Stanislaus moved up on spot to third. Preseason No. 1 West Florida garnered one first-place vote and fell two spots to fourth. UC-San Diego, St. Mary?s and Hawaii-Hilo all made big moves to jump into the top ten at spots five through seven, respectively. Hawaii-Hilo made the biggest gain, climbing from No. 25. Francis Marion, Delta State and Western Washington complete the top 10.

 

South Carolina-Aiken dropped from the top 10 to No. 11 and is followed by Armstrong Atlantic State, Central Oklahoma, Pfeiffer and Cameron. Florida Southern fell from ninth to No. 16. Saint Martin?s, Northeastern State, Grand Canyon and Central Arkansas round out the top 20.

 

Coker climbed three spots to No. 21. Rollins took the biggest drop in the poll, falling from No. 10 to 22nd. Columbus State, Grand Valley State and Barton went from unranked to Nos. 23-25, respectively.

Arkansas Tech, Colorado-Colorado Springs and North Alabama dropped from the rankings.

 

The Division II Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of Division II coaches and administrators that are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division II Precept Coaches poll will be released March 4.
