Clemson Tops Precept Coaches Poll

 

 

Cal State-Stanislaus, Methodist College No. 1 in Divisions II, III

Clemson has been voted as the top-ranked team in Division men?s collegiate golf according to the Precept Coaches Poll released by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) today. Cal State-Stanislaus and Methodist College are ranked No. 1 in Divisions II and III, respectively.

 

Clemson claimed 26 of the 35 first-place votes and 840 points to claim the top stop in Division I. Augusta State, with two first-place votes, ranks second followed by Florida (one first-place vote), Wake Forest and Arizona (one first-place vote). Rounding out the top 10 are TCU, Texas, UNLV, Minnesota and Georgia. Other teams receiving first-place votes include UNLV, Oklahoma State (No. 11), Georgia Tech (No. 15) and New Mexico (No. 16). Georgia Tech, ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, received two first-place votes.

 

 

Cal State-Stanislaus claimed the top spot in Division II where it edged Colorado-Colorado Springs by 29 points. The two schools tied in first-place votes. Pfeiffer ranked third and is followed by Cal State-Bakersfield and West Florida. Cal-Davis, North Alabama, South Carolina-Aiken, Florida Southern College and Chico State round out the top 10.
 

 

In Division III, Methodist College was voted the nation?s top-ranked team and is followed by Wisconsin-Eau Claire, who actually claimed the most first-place votes. The remaining teams in the top five include Oglethorpe, Guilford College and Greensboro, where 13 points separate teams three through five. Saint John?s came in at No. 6 and is followed by Ohio Wesleyan, Central College, Emory and Wesley.

 

To vote in the Precept Coaches poll, a coach must be a member of the GCAA. The next Division I Precept Coaches poll will be released Feb. 26 with Division II and III polls coming on March 12 and 16, respectively.
